This actually happened.
One continuous take, spoken into a microphone, against the same servers you will be using. We cut an idle pause between the two turns. We did not retype a single word, and nothing on screen is staged.

Both of them heard it, too. The italic line is what was said; the line under it is what TOKI spoke aloud in the other language. The recording has no audio track — screen capture cannot take one — so the voice you would have heard is missing from the clip, not from the app.
How it works

Set the two languages
One for you, one for them. Any pair of the fourteen — it does not have to involve English.
Step 02
Hold, and just talk
Speak the way you normally speak. The microphone is open while the button is down and closed the moment you let go — you can see it, the whole time.

They hear you. Then they answer
TOKI says it out loud in their language and writes it down. They hold their own button and reply, and it comes back in yours.

What happens to your voice — and what TOKI is not.
A translator is asked to listen to things people would not put in writing. So here is the whole arrangement, in plain language, before you sign up.
How it handles your audio
- Only while you hold the button. The microphone opens on press and closes on release. No background listening, no wake word, no “always on”.
- It goes to our server, and to OpenAI. That is how the translation is produced. We say so here, on the welcome screen, and in the consent gate, because it is the one thing you should know before you speak.
- We do not sell it. Not the audio, not the transcripts, not who you talked to.
- You can delete all of it. Account deletion is in the app, it is one screen, and everything attached to the account goes with it.
Where you should not use it
- It is a machine, not an interpreter. Very good at everyday conversation. Not a person who can hear that you are being misunderstood and start again.
- Not for medical, legal or financial decisions. Or emergencies. In those rooms, get a qualified human interpreter — our terms say the same thing, and we would rather lose the download.
- It needs the internet. Translation happens on our servers, so an offline phone is a phone that cannot translate.
- It takes turns. TOKI translates a turn at a time, like an interpreter waiting for you to finish — not a whisper over the top of a live call.

How does TOKI work?
You pick a language for each speaker, hold the talk button and speak. TOKI records only while the button is held, transcribes what you said, translates it, and speaks the result out loud in the other language. The transcript and the translation both appear on screen.
Does the other person need the app?
No. TOKI is built for two people sharing one phone. Each speaker has their own talk button and their own language, so the other person speaks into the same device and hears the reply out loud. Nothing to install on their side, no link to send, no account for them to make.
Which languages are supported?
Fourteen, in both directions: English, Thai, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Mandarin), Russian, Indonesian and Vietnamese. Any of them can be paired with any other — neither side has to be English.
What does it cost?
Every new account starts with 30 minutes of free translation time, and Profile shows exactly how much of it you have used.
Paid top-up packs are planned but not on sale yet, so there is nothing to buy today and no card to enter. When pricing is live it will be posted here first.
Do I need to install anything?
No. TOKI runs in your browser — allow microphone access and you are translating. Android and iOS builds are being prepared for the stores; they are the same app talking to the same servers.
Does it work offline?
No. Transcription, translation and speech all happen on our servers, so TOKI needs a connection. The servers are in Singapore, which keeps the round trip short across South-East Asia.
Is it listening when I am not using it?
No. The microphone opens when you press the talk button and closes when you release it. There is no background listening and no wake word, and the app shows a live recording indicator the entire time it is capturing.
How accurate is it?
Very good at everyday conversation — directions, prices, orders, arrangements, small talk. It is a machine translator, and like every machine translator it can miss an idiom, a name or a heavy accent.
Please do not rely on it for medical, legal, financial or emergency situations. For those, use a qualified human interpreter.
Can I delete my account and everything in it?
Yes — from inside the app, in one screen, at any time. Everything attached to the account goes with it. If you can no longer sign in, there is a web form at toki.brivfy.com/delete-account.html.
